Update Apple TV (4th Generation)
To manually check for updates open Settings and go to System > Software Updates > Update Software. To ensure your Apple TV is always up-to-date, turn on Automatic Updates.
If an update is available, you can download and install it right away, or choose to update later. If you defer the update until later, you can go back into Settings and run the update during a more convenient time.
First the update will download, and after it completes, you’ll get a few selections. One is to set updates to automatic (which most users will find most convenient), update now or run it later. Personally, I like to manually update so I can see what changes the update brings.
When you do start the update, make sure not to unplug your box while the process completes. And note that the Apple TV will restart, sometimes multiple times during the process.
To check which version of tvOS your new Apple TV is running, go to Settings > General > About and there you’ll see the version.
